The Story Behind Jobdocs

Built by Builders, For Builders
Josh is a licensed builder based in Australia with over 10 years of experience running construction projects. Alongside his building work, he has built a following on Instagram at @thedesignerbuilderco where he shares practical knowledge for builders and tradies looking to run a better business.
Josh heads the Jobdocs project, but the platform is owned and shaped by a group of builders who sit on an advisory board. People who are still on the tools, still running jobs, and still dealing with the same frustrations the industry has had for years. That is not an accident. It means every decision made about the platform comes from people who actually understand the problem.
It Started With Templates
In 2024, Josh started selling professional document templates for builders and tradies. Quote templates, fee proposals, and client documents. Things that helped small operators present themselves like they had a proper business behind them.
They are still available today for builders who want a standalone document they can use straight away. But the feedback that kept coming back made it clear that templates alone were only solving part of the problem.
Licensed Builder and Founder of Jobdocs
I watched too many people who have never set foot on a job site build software they thought builders needed. Overcomplicated platforms that did everything average and nothing well. Builders are not complicated people. They want one real problem solved properly. That is what Jobdocs is.
Builders Wanted More Than a Better Looking Document
The people buying the templates were editing them in Canva. Every time they needed to send a quote, they were opening the file, swapping out the client name, updating the scope, adjusting the numbers, and exporting it again. Then starting from scratch for the next job.
It worked, but it was slow. And the more jobs a builder had on, the more time it was costing them.
What Builders Actually Asked For
The requests were consistent. Builders wanted a platform where client information was stored and pulled through automatically. They wanted to customise their templates and reuse them without rebuilding from scratch each time. They wanted to send documents directly through a platform rather than downloading a file and attaching it to an email.
A simple CRM to keep client records in one place came up regularly. So did the ability to track where a job was in the pipeline without jumping between different tools.
The Biggest Pain Point Was Double Up Work
The one that came up more than anything else was the double handling between quoting and accounting. A builder would put a quote together, the client would accept it, and then they would have to re-enter all the same information into Xero or QuickBooks to raise an invoice. The same data, typed out twice, every single time.
For a builder doing multiple jobs a week, that adds up fast.
The Real Problem Was Bigger Than Admin
When you look at what clients receive from most builders, it is almost always the same thing. A basic document, a list of costs, a total at the bottom. There is nothing wrong with the information, but there is nothing to separate one builder from the next either.
Clients are making decisions based on price because that is the only real difference they can see. The builder with better experience, better communication, and a stronger track record is losing jobs to someone cheaper, simply because their documents do not reflect the business they have actually built.
Jobdocs Was Built to Change That
The goal of Jobdocs is to reenergise the quoting experience, for builders and for their clients. A platform that gives builders fully customisable templates, an integrated CRM, and a seamless connection to their accounting software, all in one place.
When a builder sends a Jobdocs document, it stands apart. The client receives something professional, clear, and well structured. That presentation builds trust before a single conversation has taken place.
Most builders are still sending the same old documents. Jobdocs is for the ones who are not willing to blend in.
